Verified August 27, 2026: merging one Pinterest board into another moves its Pins and deletes the source board. Pinterest warns that source-board followers do not transfer, the destination board's privacy applies, and there is no one-click undo. Reversal requires creating a new board and moving Pins back manually.
A merge is therefore a structural change, not a cosmetic cleanup. Inventory ownership, privacy, followers, sections, and source URLs before confirming it.
Know exactly what Pinterest will do
Pinterest's official merge documentation states that a board merge:
- moves Pins into the selected destination;
- deletes the source board;
- does not transfer the source board's followers;
- uses the destination board's privacy;
- cannot be undone automatically.
Merging sections similarly moves their Pins and deletes the source section.

If the two boards have different owners or one is merely collaborative, stop. Pinterest says you can merge boards or sections you own; collaborator access is not ownership.
Resolve the privacy direction
The destination controls the resulting visibility. Merging a secret source into a public destination can expose the moved Pins. Merging public content into a secret destination can remove public access and break expectations for followers.
Open the destination's edit settings and verify its privacy immediately before the merge. Do not rely on the cover icon or memory.
Decide whether followers make the merge unacceptable
Followers of the source board do not transfer. If the source has a meaningful audience, consider keeping it, renaming it, or moving only selected Pins rather than merging. Record its public URL because inbound links and saved bookmarks may no longer lead to the same board after deletion.
Test with a small move first
- Choose two or three representative Pins.
- Move them manually to the intended destination or section.
- Check titles, links, sections, and ordering on desktop and mobile.
- Confirm collaborators can still perform the expected actions.
- Proceed only if the destination behaves correctly.
If order is important, record it. A merge is not a preservation guarantee for visual ordering across every interface.
Choose the safer operation
- Merge: use when the source has no independent audience or privacy purpose and you accept deletion.
- Move selected Pins: use when only part of the board belongs elsewhere.
- Create sections: use when one board has a coherent audience but needs internal organization.
- Rename or archive: use when you want to preserve history without active clutter.
- Keep separate: use when privacy, ownership, followers, or collaborators differ.
Verify immediately after merging
- Open the destination from your profile.
- Check the Pin count and all sections.
- Open a sample of old, recent, video, and product Pins.
- Verify destination privacy while signed out or from an appropriate test account.
- Ask one collaborator to confirm access if collaboration matters.
- Do not perform another merge until this one passes.
If Pins appear missing afterward
Check All saves, every section, the correct destination, archived boards, and the account username. Then use the missing Pinterest Pins recovery checklist. Do not merge additional boards while investigating.
Do not use board merging to merge accounts
A collaborative board does not turn two accounts into one. For account consolidation, follow the manual Pinterest account migration guide and keep the old owner active until the new account independently owns the required destination boards.
The merge decision
Merge only when losing the source board, its followers, its privacy settings, and an easy undo is acceptable. If any one of those matters, move selected Pins or keep the board separate.
