Pinterest Notifications Won’t Clear or Keep Arriving?

Verified August 27, 2026: Pinterest notifications arrive through three independent channels: inside Pinterest, by email, and as operating-system push notifications. Turning off one channel does not automatically clear the others, and a red badge can remain even after delivery preferences change.

Quick diagnosis: identify whether the problem is a new alert, an unread badge, a marketing email, or an old notification being displayed again. Each requires a different fix.

Classify the unwanted notification

• In-app update: visible inside Pinterest's Updates or notifications area.
• Push notification: delivered by Android, iOS, or the browser.
• Email: sent to the address associated with an account.
• Icon badge: a number or dot shown on the Pinterest app icon.
• Security message: a login or account-protection notice that may not behave like marketing preferences.

Pinterest's notification documentation lists separate Push, Email, and In-app controls across categories such as recommendations, saves, messages, group boards, and announcements.

Fix Pinterest preferences first

1. Open Pinterest Settings.
2. Open Notifications.
3. Review each category rather than relying on one master switch.
4. Disable the unwanted channel—Push, Email, or In-app—for that category.
5. Save on desktop; mobile changes may save automatically.
6. Capture the final state so you can prove whether it later changes.

If you have several Pinterest accounts, repeat the check in the account that actually generated the alert. A notification can open one profile while you edit preferences in another.

Fix the operating-system push layer

If Pinterest settings are correct but alerts still arrive, inspect the device layer:

• Android: Settings → Apps → Pinterest → Notifications. Review individual notification categories if the device exposes them.
• iPhone or iPad: Settings → Notifications → Pinterest. Review Allow Notifications, Badges, Sounds, and delivery style.
• Desktop browser: inspect the browser's site-notification permission for pinterest.com and the operating system's browser notifications.

Disabling Badges can hide the icon count without changing whether notifications are delivered. That is useful for diagnosis but does not mark Pinterest updates as read.

Clear a badge without destroying app state

1. Open Pinterest's Updates and Messages areas and allow them to finish loading.
2. Open any clearly unread item.
3. Force-close and reopen the app once.
4. Restart the device if the OS icon badge remains stale.
5. Compare the badge on another device signed into the same account.

If the in-app count is zero but the app icon still shows a number, the OS badge cache is the likely layer. Reinstall only after confirming your credentials and preserving any local drafts.

Stop Pinterest emails correctly

Use the unsubscribe or preference link inside a genuine Pinterest email, or disable the matching Email category in Pinterest settings. Check the message header to identify which address and account received it.

If emails refer to an account you did not create, Pinterest's notification guide provides a separate process for removing your email address from that account. Do not log into an unknown account or click links from a suspicious sender; navigate to Pinterest directly.

Allow for delivery already in progress

A preference change may not retract an email or push message already queued. Record the exact time you changed the setting, then judge only messages generated afterward. Security, legal, transaction, and account-integrity messages may still be sent where necessary.

When irrelevant notifications reflect recommendation problems

Turning off “Pins picked for you” stops that channel; it does not improve the underlying recommendation model. If the home feed is also irrelevant, use the Pinterest home-feed diagnostic separately.

Send the minimal reproduction to Pinterest. Avoid repeatedly resetting every preference because that removes the evidence needed to isolate one setting.

The notification rule

Control the source inside Pinterest, the delivery permission in the operating system, and the visual badge separately. Most “Pinterest ignored my setting” reports become much clearer once those three layers are tested independently.
