Verified August 27, 2026: Pinterest Catalogs separates ingestion from distribution. A file can download successfully while individual products fail, and a product can ingest successfully while remaining ineligible for organic or paid distribution.
Best practice: export Diagnostics, preserve the failing feed, fix one error family at a time, and compare the next scheduled ingestion. Do not rewrite the whole feed from a dashboard summary.
Start with the correct diagnostic layer
Pinterest's Catalog diagnostics separates:
- Ingestion issues: failed uploads, row failures, and metadata warnings;
- Distribution issues: products ineligible for ads or organic placement.
Export details from the affected tab. Record catalog, data source, ingestion timestamp, total products, successful rows, warnings, and failures.
Confirm feed access before debugging rows
Pinterest's catalog requirements say a hosted source must be directly downloadable over supported HTTP/HTTPS, FTP/SFTP, or WebDAV access. It cannot require IP/SSH-key whitelisting or extra navigation; direct URL ports must be 80 or 443.
- 100: Pinterest could not download the data source. Test URL, credentials, redirects, status, and a direct file response.
- 152: the source lacks the minimum valid lines. Confirm a header plus at least one product row and crawler access.
- 2: ingestion ended early because the source did not change. This is a warning, not necessarily a failed feed.
- 1013: product count changed significantly. Verify that export pagination, filters, or upstream jobs did not omit products.
Fix required product fields
- 107: missing description. Populate a real product description.
- 111: missing
image_link. Supply an accessible product image URL. - 112: missing availability. Use the supported values such as in stock, out of stock, or preorder.
- 113: invalid price format. Supply a numeric price with the correct ISO-4217 currency code.
- 151: required price missing. Add the product's actual current price.
- 1001: image not found. Confirm status, redirects, case-sensitive path, and public availability.
- 1007: invalid image file. Replace it with a valid supported image and update the URL.
Validate the exact exported file, not only product values inside the commerce CMS.
Fix identifiers, domains, and duplicates
- 123: duplicate item IDs. Every distinct item/variant needs a stable unique ID.
- 139: item links do not match the verified domain. Correct the destination host or claim the proper website.
- 179: GTIN is incorrectly formatted. Pinterest documents valid digit lengths of 8, 12, 13, or 14 without dashes.
- 154: too many product types. Pinterest supports up to five in the list.
Use the website claim guide before altering every product link to work around code 139.
Fix price, currency, shipping, and sale fields
- 125: sale price exceeds regular/list price. Correct the source values and effective dates.
- 169: currency appears unusual for the selling location. Verify market and feed configuration.
- 180: price-related fields contain inconsistent currencies. Use one correct currency per item context.
- 182: sale price is much lower than regular price. Confirm it is legitimate and not a decimal or currency error.
- 131: shipping format is invalid. Pinterest expects the documented country:region:service:price structure with required colons.
Fix taxonomy and metadata warnings
- 126: Google product category has too few levels; provide the most specific applicable taxonomy path.
- 157: Google product category is missing.
- 158: Google product category is formatted incorrectly.
- 116: condition missing; use a supported value such as new, used, or refurbished.
- 155: more than 10 additional images; limit the list.
- 115: description exceeds 10,000 characters and is truncated.
Warnings may allow ingestion but reduce matching or distribution quality. Fix failures first, then warnings by affected-row volume.
Fix Shopify and policy-specific codes
- 4057: Shopify products are not active/available to the Pinterest sales channel.
- 4058: products lack the required Shopify-hosted online store availability.
- 4059: products are not translated into the data source's default language.
- 4042: products do not meet Merchant Guidelines. Remove or correct the non-compliant item; metadata formatting alone will not solve policy ineligibility.
Always confirm current wording in Pinterest's official error-code reference, which may add or revise codes.
Use a controlled remediation cycle
- Archive the failing feed and exported diagnostics.
- Group affected rows by error code.
- Fix file-level failures before row-level errors.
- Correct the upstream commerce data, not only a one-time CSV copy.
- Validate encoding, delimiter, required headers, and sample rows locally.
- Publish the new source and verify direct download.
- Wait for or trigger the next supported ingestion.
- Compare counts and export diagnostics again.
Connect Catalogs to Rich Pins and merchant status
A catalog is not the same as page-level Rich Pin markup. Product pages should still expose accurate, current data. Use the Rich Pin guide for page metadata and the Verified Merchant audit when catalog success is part of eligibility.
The catalog rule
Keep the failing input, fix the upstream source by code family, and verify the next ingestion quantitatively. A green file upload does not prove every product is eligible for distribution.
